Chapter 1: Destination Weddings: Why Bali Might Be Perfect for You Thinking about getting married in Bali,
but still wondering if it's the right destination for you?
After 16 years photographing destination weddings around the world,
I've come to believe that Bali offers something beyond beautiful wedding venues.
It turns a one-day celebration into days of shared memories with the people you love.
In this first chapter of Bali Wedding Guide,
I'll share why destination weddings can be so meaningful,
and what makes Bali a special place to begin your marriage.
Digital downloadable e-book.
Bali Wedding Guide — Chapter 1
Most weddings last just one day.
You spend months preparing, everyone arrives, you celebrate, and before you know it, it's over.
A destination wedding gives you something different: more time together.
Time to reconnect with family, catch up with old friends, and turn your wedding into a shared holiday.
It's not just about where you get married. It's about what that place allows you to experience together.
Over the years, I've noticed four things that make destination weddings memorable.
1. Intimacy by Design
A smaller gathering where you can share meaningful moments with the people closest to you.
2. A Family Reunion
An opportunity to bring together family and friends who may live in different cities or countries.
3. A Holiday Together
More time to relax, celebrate, and enjoy each other's company beyond the wedding day.
4. Natural Ambience
A beautiful destination creates an atmosphere that doesn't always need elaborate decorations.
Together, these experiences can make your wedding feel much more personal.
I've photographed weddings in many beautiful destinations. But there's something about Bali that keeps bringing me back.
A Little Island With So Much Variety
From ocean cliffs and beaches to jungles, mountains, and rice fields, Bali offers different settings for your wedding and the days surrounding it.
An Established Wedding Destination
Bali has spent decades developing its resorts, private villas, and hospitality industry.
Experienced Wedding Professionals
The island has a large community of wedding professionals accustomed to working with destination weddings and international couples.
An Atmosphere That's Hard to Replicate
Bali's natural beauty, culture, and holiday atmosphere help create a different experience for you and your guests.
Bali isn't perfect, and every destination wedding requires preparation.
But from what I've experienced, few places bring so many possibilities together on one island.
A destination wedding might be a wonderful choice if you value quality time with your loved ones, want a celebration that feels personal, and love the idea of sharing a holiday together.
But there's another consideration.
Your guests may need to travel, take time away from work, and arrange accommodation.
So the question isn't simply whether Bali is beautiful.
It's whether the experience Bali offers matches what matters most to you.
This chapter is here to help you answer that question.
Our love story with Bali began in 2003, when Ilona and I spent our honeymoon here.
We kept returning, first as visitors and later as destination wedding photographers.
Over the years, we had the privilege of documenting hundreds of weddings in different parts of the world.
And the more weddings I witnessed, the more I appreciated what Bali could offer couples beyond a beautiful celebration.
That's what inspired me to write Bali Wedding Guide, first published in 2018 and now rewritten for its digital edition.
Today, Ilona and I are also the founders of Smart Bali Guide, and we're sharing our journey back into the wedding world through @povbacktoweddings.
Then you've answered the first big question.
The next is: How do you plan a Bali wedding that's well planned, well spent, and worth remembering?
That's where the complete Bali Wedding Guide comes in.
The full e-book contains six chapters, guiding you from understanding destination weddings to making the decisions that shape your celebration.

Explore the Complete Bali Wedding Guide
Bali has been part of our story since our honeymoon in 2003.
And after witnessing so many weddings here, I believe it has what it takes to create something genuinely special.
Not simply because of its beautiful locations.
But because of the time, connection, and experiences you can share with the people you love.
A destination wedding works not because it is far away, but because it brings people closer.
I hope this chapter helps you discover whether Bali is the right place to begin your own story.
